History of the University of Gonabad
University of Gonabad was launched in 2010. It took place following Gonabad’s Member of Parliament’s proposal to the President, enquiring about founding a Higher Education Institution associated to the Mistry of Sciences, Research and Technology. This Institution was established after the President’s letter of approval and the confirmation of both Ministry of Sciences, Research and Technology and the Higher Education Development Council, in 2010. In August 2010, 72 students began their studies in Software Engineering.
There were only 3 undergraduate programmes (Software engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Applied Chemistry), 300 students, 10 employees and 32 faculty members, from its establishment till 2013. The Institution promoted to a Complex in September 2013. Within 2 years after that, the number of programmes increased and 2100 students joined the Complex. At the moment, there are 24 programmes running for the undergraduate level. Located in the south of Khorasan-e-Razavi province, Gonabad is regarded as the most important center for the higher education.
